Ebony McClungs

We offer three grades of ebony.  The Basic ebony contains brown to gray streaks. The Select ebony contains fewer gray streaks and is darker. The Premium ebony, when available, is very dark and contains almost no streaks.  We often use the Premium ebony with our inlay armrests.

Our Basic and Select comes from West African ebony.  Also known as Gabon or Gaboon ebony, is sometimes jet black but often times has grayish streaks. It is fairly fine-grained and takes a high polish. This ebony usually originates in either Cameroon or Nigeria.

Our Premium ebony is often Malagasy Ebony. It is unsurpassed for its beauty and blackness. It is fairly fine-textured and takes a high polish. Finest ebony in the world. Rare.

We finish our ebony with Teak oil and Behlens ‘deluxing’ compound. We also like to use Macassar ebony from Asia.  It has the same qualities as Gabon ebony but is figured with brown streaks.  Most of our inlaid armrests are ebony

The standard 27mm hardware will fit side depths of 1 5/8” – 1 7/8”.  Our 28mm hardware from 1 ¾” – 2 ¼”.  We have nickel and gold hardware.  Please specify hardware preference with your order.
