What thickness do the armrests fit?

Our default 28 mm chrome hardware fits 1 11/16” – 2” thick instruments. We have 27mm in gold and nickel which is good for 1 5/8” – 1 7/8”. Also available are 24mm – 42mm which provides a range from 1 1/2” – 2 5/8”. It’s best to measure your instrument and lets us know when ordering.

Do the armrests work with a ToneGard?

Yes, I use a ToneGard myself. The armrest goes on first. In some cases a pad on the ToneGard may have to be relocated.

What about finish damage?

Any finish can show contact wear from just about anything. Including straps & tuners. We use leather for the contact points of the armrest and hardware. We have good feedback concerning finish interaction.

Mandolins, mandolas, & octaves oh my?

Our mandolin armrest template fits most modern models. The Big Muddy mandolin and similar are a different shape. We have a template for it as well.

Most mandolas will work with a regular McClung armrest, but we do have a template based on an Eastman mandola

We also have a template based on an Eastman octave.

We are able to make a custom armrest from the customer’s tracing. As with all armrests it’s important to provide a measurement of the side thickness for an appropriate hardware size

What’s the best McClung model?

Ebony continues to be the top seller. While the curly and Birdseye maple are beautiful, the ebony is the most durable. Plus black goes with everything.

Will a cantilevered pickguard work with a non-cantilevered fretboard extension?

Sure, you can cut and sand the glue strip to fit.
