Pickguards

(aka, finger rest)

You’ll be pleased with the look and craftsmanship.

Abbreviated A style, F style, or Art Deco there’s one for you.

Not only a pickguard to protect the top but a finger rest to aid in proper pick attack and playing.

Offered unbound or bound with celluloid binding.

A much-debated topic…

is that the finger rest inhibits the volume of the instrument.  Frankly, it’s not noticeable if it does.

The Full size is a bit much, but it hasn’t prevented Gibson from including them on their mandolins and arch top guitars.

An abbreviated style as shown in the photo (Nate Lee’s Pava) is 5″x 2″.  Our abbreviated are 5″ – 5 1/4″ x 1 7/8″ – 2″.  The mid-size finger rest is 5 1/8″ – 5 1/4″ x 2 1/8″ – 2 1/4″.  Neither the abbreviated or mid-size finger rests require a side bracket as the Full-size finger rest. Our Full-size are 5 1/2″ x 2 3/4″.

We use the traditional method using two pins inserted in the pickguard and into the fingerboard extension. The pins and directions are included.  We also offer the option of 2M screws for an additional charge. Both the pins or screws can be pre-mounted for no additional charge.

New are the cantilever ready mounting strips. Some mandolins have the fretboard cantivered over the fretboard extension. We are allowing an extra 1/8″ extend out from the pickguard for these applications.  It provides  a sturdier base for mounting the pins.  The extended mounting strip can be shaped for a custom fit.

Please contact us with questions or we can email a set of instructions.

Bill Monroe’s 1923 Gibson Loyd Loar

could’ve used an armrest and pickguard.
